Additional Information on In-Wall Speakers, Ceiling Speakers
In-Wall Speakers
In-wall speakers and can be fastened to a wide variety of flat wall surfaces. Usually classified by the size of the woofer (as opposed to the actual dimensions of the speaker itself), they take up minimal space and can provide sound for every room in the house. These speakers are most often rectangular, and are an excellent choice for whole house audio applications because of their unobtrusive appearance. By using the wall cavity as the enclosure, they are effective, convenient and economical. Special “dog ears” flip out and fasten the speaker to the drywall, adjacent stud, or a special frame attached to the studs. Special brackets can also be purchased for a more secure fit or for lighter wall materials that require more support.
In Ceiling Speakers
Ceiling speakers are much the same as in-wall speakers. Since they usually weigh less and are less obvious than in-wall speakers, they work well in ceiling applications, or when wall space is at a minimum. The size of the woofer rather than the dimensions of the actual speaker itself also classifies these speakers, usually round in shape. Like in-wall speakers, special “dog ears” flip out and fasten the speaker to the drywall, adjacent stud, or a special frame attached to the studs. Special brackets can also be purchased for a more secure fit or for lighter wall materials that require more support.
